sania2 Actor Navdeeps Reaction For Sania Mirza’s Engagement Being Called Off

He’s struck BO gold in Kollywood as an actor, but back home, actor Navdeep is more remembered for his partying ways and friendship with Sania Mirza. The actor who keeps shuttling in and out of the city, was in town for a cancer awareness program. In a chat with Hyderabad Times he talks about films, friends and more.

Navdeep’s latest film Om Shanti, which had audiences talking about his designer togs and sense of style, was an experimental film with a new narration technique. But with the film failing to dazzle the BO, was the experiment too much of a gamble for someone who’s inching his way towards lead roles? In his usual bindaas style, Navdeep replies, “Nobody can predict if a film will be a hit or flop. If it clicks then everybody says ‘what a good decision, what acting!’ I’m not bothered by these reactions, I picked up the film because I liked the script and it was a big banner.”

His forthcoming film with Bhumika Chawla and Kim Sharma “is not the run-of-the-mill kind” he insists. Also Navdeep gets to do dare-devil stunts in the film and “all the action scenes were shot in Bangkok. You can see me jumping off high rises on to a moving truck, there’s a chase on a rooftop and lots more,” he grins.

But wasn’t pairing with Bhumika, a much senior actor, a tough call? Will it be another Dil Bole Hadippa, where Shahid Kapoor looked so much younger than the leading lady? “No, the film has a fast-paced narration; it’s a thriller unlike DBH which was a regular romantic film. So, the age factor doesn’t get magnified.” Navdeep’s currently busy with Sinam, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, and “though offers have come, I can’t talk about them now,” he says.

On a parting note we ask him what his first reaction was on hearing about Sania Mirza’s engagement being called off. “I was concerned. I was wondering how she was taking it and hoping all was well with her. But after I heard the news that it was a mutual decision, I was glad she was handling it well.” So, has he met her in recent times? “No, it’s a long time since I met her. The last time I saw her was at a function at her place,” he signs off.
