Exclusive Interview with Alexa Davalos from Clash of the Titans
Alexa Davalos stars as Princess Andromeda in the 2010 version of the action epic Clash of the Titans. Davalos is no stranger to action films (she starred opposite Vin Diesel in The Chronicles of Riddick), and playing opposite a Kraken that wasn't there just meant she had to put her imagination to good use. "You know what? It's a funny thing. I think the first time I did it I was completely uncomfortable with it and thought, 'Oh, what am I going to do?' And then you kind of remember being a kid and you remember scaring yourself, or thinking there's something under your bed. You know, you go into the child inside of you," explained Davalos at the LA premiere of Clash of the Titans. "What we do is make-believe, you know? And so in its purest form it really is about the imagination and so I really enjoy it."What else did she have to say about working on this big-budget action-heavy film? Fantastic Voyage, Three Musketeers, Travis McGee Director News
When it rains, it pours...directors. The Hollywood Reporter says three big projects have three big name filmmakers circling them to direct. First off, Doug Liman (who recently wrapped up work on Fair Game with Naomi Watts and Sean Penn) is going to helm Three Musketeers - if his deal goes through. Set up at Warner Bros, the latest take on the classic Alexandre Dumas novel was adapted by Peter Straughan (the screenwriter of Men Who Stare at Goats) and follows D'Artagnan as he teams up with the three musketeers to take care of the evil Cardinal Richelieu. WB is expected to make this in 3-D - that's what they're planning to do with all tentpole releases.Bourne / Green Zone director Paul Greengrass is taking his shaky cam to 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Vogage (Roland Emmerich was attached to direct this back in 2007). The project has been in the works for years, and is a remake of the 1966 sci-fi adventure film about a submarine and its crew of scientists who were shrunken down and inserted into the bloodstream of an important Soviet diplomat. And surprise, surprise! It'll be shot in 3-D.
And last but not least, The Hollywood Reporter says Oliver Stone is looking to direct Travis McGee. It's just in the 'talking' stage now, but Stone could be making Travis McGee his next project. Stone recently finished up Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (sorry, I still don't like that title - I always want to type Rust Never Sleeps) which hits theaters on September 24th. Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play the title character in the film which will be adapted from John D. MacDonald first of 21 Travis McGee books: The Deep Blue Good-by. There's no word yet on when the film will head into production.
Russell Crowe in Negotiations for A Star is Born Remake
On the black carpet at the LA premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' Clash of the Titans, producer Basil Iwanyk [pictured] confirmed things are moving forward on another remake of A Star is Born. The original 1937 film won a best original screenplay Oscar for writers William A. Wellman and Robert Carson. The 1954 incarnation with Judy Garland and James Mason also earned some love from the Academy, garnering six nominations including nods in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. And the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson also found Oscar glory, picking up the Best Original Song Academy Award and earning nominations in three other categories. This new A Star is Born has some big shoes to fill, to say the least.Iwanyk revealed Warner Bros is moving ahead with A Star is Born and is in negotiations with Russell Crowe to take on a starring role. Iwanyk also confirmed Nick Cassavetes, director of The Notebook, will helm the project, and shooting will begin this fall. However, Iwanyk said it'll be going into production without Beyonce in the lead, as had been rumored.
"We wanted Beyonce, she wanted to do it, but it was hard to figure out her dates and her deal," Iwanyk told me on the black carpet at the Clash of the Titans premiere. "She just came off of a huge world tour and Warners wants to have the movie for next summer, and so we just couldn't work out."
Alex Meraz Eclipse and Breaking Dawn Interview
Alex Meraz joined the Twilight film franchise with the second movie of the series, New Moon. Meraz plays Paul, a member of the wolfpack (and all Twilight fans will know what the means...the rest of the world will have no idea), and his role - along with the rest of the pack members - should be expanded in the next Twilight film, Eclipse, and the final film, Breaking Dawn. Or should we say 'final films'? Summit still hasn't announced whether the fourth book will be broken up into two movies.On the red carpet at the premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' Clash of the Titans, Meraz said he thinks it should be split in two. "[...]I think it has to, with respect to what the book is," said Meraz in our exclusive interview. "It's one book, but they're broken up into two sections, right? So there's so much, I think having it in one film wouldn't do it justice."
Clash of the Titans Movie Review
When it comes down to it, this Clash of the Titans isn't all that much different than the original 1981 film directed by Desmond Davis and starring Harry Hamlin. If you enjoyed that campy classic, you're more likely to get a kick out of this CG action romp than if you weren't a fan of the original film going in. The two films are similar in tone, style, dialogue, and wardrobe; the major difference between the two being the special effects.Jeffrey Dean Morgan Interview - Red Dawn, The Fields and Supernatural
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Losers) and Clash of the Titans star Sam Worthington are getting ready to film The Fields together, going through homicide school and doing ride-alongs with the LAPD in order to take on the roles of Texas cops in the film. And at the LA premiere of Warner Bros' Clash of the Titans remake, Morgan talked about that project as well as Red Dawn and Supernatural. Director Louis Leterrier, writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, and producer Basil Iwanyk hit the 'black' carpet at the LA premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' Clash of the Titans, an action-packed epic based on Greek mythology (and the 1981 movie). Leterrier is a big fan of the original film, as are the writers, and wanted to make sure this one lived up to the original while also giving audiences a new story to get into. And producer Iwanyk says converting it to 3-D will add to the audiences' experience of this new take on the classic film."A lot of 3-D movies are people reaching out of the camera and stuff, and Avatar just made it a more immersive experience. And so when we looked at the movie we realized, 'God, it almost looks like it was shot for 3-D.' Obviously it wasn't. And it was a consideration by us in the studio going, 'We could actually make this into a completely immersive experience.' Obviously, not like Avatar which was a different level of 3-D, but it was just to make it a lot more fun and a lot more exciting."
And in other news, Leterrier told me those Y: The Last Man and The Avengers directing rumors are just that - rumors. "It's funny. It's like if you ask me, 'Would you like to direct Superman?,' I'd say, 'Oh yeah, I'd love to direct Superman.' Bam! I'm directing Superman. Don't ask me anything because I'll say, 'Yeah, I'd love to do it.' I'm a fan. Before being a filmmaker, I'm a moviegoer. I'm a fan. I read comic books. I read books, I read all that stuff, so I've got stories in my head so when somebody says, 'Would you like to...,' of course I'd like to."
Leterrier might not be working on those projects, but writers Hay and Manfredi definitely are working on The Boys (based on the Darick Robertson/Garth Ennis comic book). In fact, they're very excited that it's currently in the 'hunt for a director' stage. The Boys will remain very faithful to the source material, with all the main characters making the leap to the big screen - as well as a couple of new characters. And asked what scene they're most excited about audiences getting to see, Hay replied, "I think Starlight's introduction to The Seven. I think fans will realize, once they know that that's in, they'll know the level of hardcore that we are going for."
Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer Debuts and Q&A with the Cast
Screen Gems debuted the 3-D teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife to a rowdy, jam-packed audience at the 2010 WonderCon, and the response of the crowd was overwhelmingly positive. Before it'd even finished up, Resident Evil fans were demanding a second showing of the action-packed teaser. And, after a Q&A with writer/director/producer Paul W S Anderson, Milla Jovovich, and Ali Larter, Screen Gems gave in and screened the trailer (which hadn't been seen outside of Anderson's cutting room) to more enthusiastic applause.This fourth film of the Resident Evil series wasn't converted to 3-D as an afterthought, but instead was conceived in 3-D. Just about a year ago Anderson was invited by James Cameron to see Avatar, and that was when he got the idea to make this Resident Evil the first to be in 3-D. Anderson says he was totally impressed with Cameron's camera system and asked Screen Gems for more money to make Afterlife in Real 3-D.
Sebastian Stan Joins Captain America, Emily Blunt Passes
It's official - Marvel Studios says Chris Evans is now 100% confirmed to take the lead in The First Avenger: Captain America. And joining him in the action adventure will be Sebastian Stan as his sidekick, Bucky. Stan was in the running for the role of Captain America, but ultimately lost out to Evans.While Evans and Stan are definitely onboard, Emily Blunt will not be joining the cast despite being offered a role. Blunt has passed on the opportunity to play the main character's girlfriend, according to a report in the LA Times.
Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) is directing from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige is producing with Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel, Stratton Leopold and Louis D'Esposito executive producing. Paramount Pictures is aiming for a July 22, 2011 release.
According to Marvel, this first of what looks to be many films involving Captain America will concentrate on the early days of Steve Rogers and his beginnings as Captain America.
Evans (best known for playing The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films), will next be seen in The Losers. He also has Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Puncture set for release later this year.
New Iron Man 2, Step Up 3D, MacGruber Posters
Ready for a better look at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow? Paramount Pictures just released a big batch of posters featuring Johansson, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, and Mickey Rourke as Whiplash. Or if you're not into comic book adaptations and like your movies with a little dancing, Disney just put out the Step Up 3D poster and trailer. "Release the Kraken!" On Friday, Warner Bros is doing just that with their new take on the classic, campy Clash of the Titans. The Trailer For Predators Has Arrived
You can either love the idea of a new Predator movie or you can hate it -- but either way, you know you're interested! With the arrival of this teaser trailer, it seems as though all can take a collective sigh of relief -- it looks like producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal have nailed it. Multi-cultural cast of killer characters: Check. Eerie, jungle-set atmosphere: Check. Overtly loud, extremely menacing alien bounty hunters afoot: Check.

‘Combat Barbie’ gives Miss England swimsuit round marching orders
LONDON - Soldier Katrina Hodge, who represented England at the Miss World event in South Africa in 2009, has given marching orders to the swimsuit round of the beauty contest.
For the first time since it was founded more than 50 years ago, the Miss England competition will not include a swimwear round, thanks to Hodge a.k.a Combat Barbie, reports The Telegraph.
And in place of it, participants will take part in a sports challenge overseen by Lance Corporal Hodge. (ANI)
William Shatner launches sci-fi social network website
WASHINGTON - Actor William Shatner has launched a new social network website, ‘MyOuterSpace.com’, aimed at science fiction, horror and fantasy fans who want to make a career in the science fiction industry.The Canadian hopes to recruit people with skills in the field of science fiction.
“Register on the planet that hosts your talent, fill out a profile and connect with others in your field. Submit your resume for a Starship project that needs your talents. Whether you are an actor, writer, animator or gamer MyOuterSpace.com has a home for you,” Fox News quoted him as saying.
The network is divided into 12 categories covering different aspects of science fiction.
it includes ‘Planets’ that represent the entertainment arts, while the one for designers and animators is called ‘Anteros’.The category for writers and directors is called ‘Creatia’.
Shatner explained the six Starships are virtual production companies, each with a project being made into a film, stage or animated production.
Shatner added: “I will be monitoring all Starship projects, and reviewing each Captain’s Log, where progress will be recorded each step of the way.” (ANI)
No Oscar, but Pookutty still had a blast at awards

MUMBAI - He wasn’t nominated for the Oscars this time, but Academy Award winner Resul Pookutty struck a deal for his second major international film after “Slumdog Millionnaire” and met one of his idols, Quentin Tarantino, while he was in the US to attended the awards ceremony.
“I am an absolute fan (of Tarantino). And I had to tell him how I liked his ‘Inglourious Basterds’. When I spoke to him, Quentin turned out to be a great guy with a warm sense of humour. He asked me a lot of questions about my work and Indian cinema,” said Pookutty, the sound recordist who the Oscar for his work in “Slumdog Millionnaire” last year.
He, however, said his Oscar experience was nothing compared to the last year’s.
“I realized unless you’re nominated there’s no fun in attending the Oscars. This time I was just a spectator and to that extent I got to meet a lot of interesting people, including the best actress and best director winners, Sandra Bullock and Kathryn Bigelow, who were absolutely charming,” Pookutty said from New York.
Behind the visit to the Oscars, the sound recordist had a far bigger mission to accomplish. On Wednesday, he closed the deal for his second major international film, this one starring Joaquin Phoenix of “Walk The Line” and “Gladiator” fame.
“My second international film after ‘Slumdog…’ had to be an honourable follow-up. I couldn’t he happier because I am doing a period film. It is a very special challenge because I’ve to recreate the sound textures of New York in 1854.”
Throwing more light on the project, Pookutty said: “It’s an adaptation of a haunting thriller entitled ‘The Beautiful Cigar Girl’ by Daniel Stashower. It’s based on an eerie real-life experience of author Edgar Allan Poe which happened just months before his death. Joaquin Phoenix plays Edgar Allan Poe.”
The film, to be directed by Henry Miller, will be shot in the US this summer and Pookutty needs to wrap up his work in India before he devotes three months to the project.Coming back to the Oscar night, Pookutty says he was surprised that he was still recognized as the guy who did the sound for “Slumdog Millionaire”.
“A year has passed. But the impact of ‘Slumdog’ at the Oscars lingered this year. Maybe because no film this year did a clean sweep at the Oscars like ‘Slumdog’ last year.”
Bruce Lee disciple trained Denzel Washington for ‘…Eli’
NEW DELHI - Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington would do anything for a movie role and for his latest movie “The Book of Eli”, the 55-year-old learnt martial arts from a student of the late Bruce Lee. He teamed up with Jeff Amata, a disciple of Danny Inosanto who was Bruce Lee’s student, to learn martial arts.
“Jeff Amata trained me and I worked with Danny a bit. And after five, six months, we started stretching, moving and doing stuff with our eyes closed and got into the whole vibe,” Washington said in an e-mail interview.
The movie, which opened to mixed reviews when released in the US on Jan 15, is releasing here March 19. Directed by the Hughes brothers - Albert and Allen, “The Book of Eli” is a post-apocalyptic action film. Washington has co-produced the film, which also stars Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis.
The actor drew from personal inferences for the movie while working on his character.
“We did a lot of work, a lot of sessions with Allen and myself, and my son and the writer. I walked through it page by page. We did a lot of rewrites. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with my own personal experiences.
“I knew that there was a lot of work to be done on the script and I knew that I needed to help to do it. I just felt like I needed to be a little more hands on with this one,” he added.
Asked him, does he still practices martial art, Washington said: “No, of course not… There’s a part of me that definitely wants to continue but then there’s the actor part that also says okay, I’ve got to put that down. I’m not that guy now. I’ve got to play another guy.”
Made on a $80 million budget, the 117-minute movie was distributed by Warner Bros in the US, Entertainment Film Distributors in Britain and Columbia Pictures in some international territories, including India.
Washington was also all praise for Oldman.
“I loved working with Gary. Gary’s one of the best. We had a lot of fun… He’s the best of our generation so it was a real joy when he signed on. I was real excited about that,” he said.
The 55-year-old also denied studying other post-apocalyptic movies for this one.
“No, I didn’t. I usually take that approach - not to look at them - so that whatever I come up with, at least in my mind, I know I came up with on my own. I don’t want to start looking at other films and go ‘Oh, I can’t do that’,” he said.
“I don’t want to be hemmed in by the possibility of doing exactly what somebody else did,” he added.
Washington’s future projects include “Unstoppable” and “Inside Man 2″.
Box Office Report - Valentine's Day Feels the Love
Romance was in the air - and in theaters - over the extended Valentine's Day/Presidents Day holiday weekend. Valentine's Day, the romantic comedy with dozens of stars, easily trounced the competition, setting the record for Presidents Day weekend as it took over first place from Dear John. The Garry Marshall-helmed film now holds the record for the biggest Presidents Day weekend, dethroning the champ Ghost Rider. And due to Valentine's Day, Percy Jackson and The Wolfman's strong opening numbers, this Presidents Day weekend is now the biggest on record.Scott Kosar Gets to Work on Vlad Script
The vampire craze is showing no signs of slowing down with Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight film franchise, helping to keep the craze alive by pushing forward on Vlad. Summit's going back to the roots of Dracula, bringing the story of a young Vlad the Impaler to the screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Machinist screenwriter Scott Kosar has been tapped to work on the script actor Charlie Hunnam wrote for the action drama.Music video director Anthony Mandler is set to make his feature film directorial debut with Vlad. Brad Pitt (no stranger to vampire films having starred in Interview with the Vampire) is producing through his Plan B Shingle. There's no word yet on when production's expected to start or who will play the title role.
Screenwriter Kosar's other credits include 2003's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the remake of The Amityville Horror, and the remake of The Crazies (hitting theaters February 26th).
Summit's Vlad isn't the only project in the works to center on Vlad the Impaler. Sam Worthington, hot off his action hero turn in Avatar and with Clash of the Titans hitting theaters in April, is rumored to be starring in Dracula Year Zero for Universal Pictures. If Worthington's deal goes through he'll be taking on the lead role in what's described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a tragic love story stet in a dark age of magic and war." Alex Proyas, director of Knowing, I, Robot, Garage Days, and Dark City, is helming the film. No start date has been set.
Disney's Going to the Prom
Variety's reporting Disney's prepping another high school movie, this time one that won't involve singing but might involve a little dancing (since prom night is the centerpiece of the plot). According to Variety, Disney's Prom will follow a group of teens as they get ready for their school's dance. But you probably figured that out from the title, didn't you?
Joe Nussbaum, director of 2004's Sleepover starring Mika Boorem and Alexa Vega and 2007's Sydney White with Amanda Bynes and Sara Paxton, is set to direct from a script by first-time feature film screenwriter Katie Wech. There's no word yet on when Disney expects production to begin or who will star in the teen-centric film.
